AI Car Care Product Photos: Why That Perfect Shine Needs a Reality Check

AI car care product photos can oversell results. See why polish and wax listings need honest shine, not studio gloss, and what's safer to shoot for real.

AI car care product photos run into the same trap as listings for home repair products. A generated image can show a flawless shine on a car's paint that the real polish or wax won't quite match once it's applied under the same conditions.

Getting the polish result right

The shine level you show after polish or wax goes on needs to be something a buyer can realistically get at home, not a finish that only a professional detailing studio produces. An exaggerated, generated gloss works like any other before-and-after slide, and the same honesty rules apply. I've written about those rules in more detail in this piece on before-and-after shots.

Packaging and the bottle

Generators handle a bottle or tub of car care product with a metal or plastic cap pretty reliably. The label text, though, holds up far less reliably. Directions and other label text garble the same way any generated text does, so I leave the label alone and use a real photo of the actual packaging.

Reflections on the car body

A polished car body is one big mirror, and it runs into the same false-reflection problems as any other glossy surface. I covered that issue in general here. The safer path is starting from a real photo of the car and changing only the background around it.

Product in use

A shot of a hand applying polish or wax with a sponge or microfiber cloth sells the process well, but hands in motion still trip up most generators. This is usually one of those scenes worth building from a real photo instead.

FAQ

Why can't I show a perfect shine after polish? It works like a before-and-after promise the real product may not deliver under the same conditions, so the same honesty standards apply.

Can I trust a generator with the text on a product label? No. Directions and ingredients distort like any generated text, so keep a real photo of the packaging untouched.

What should I check in reflections on a polished car body? Whether they match a real scene. Polished paint behaves like any mirror surface and can pick up reflections that don't belong there.

How do I show a hand applying the product? It's often more reliable to build that scene from a real photo, since generators still struggle with hands doing something active.
